Handbags During the 1940's

Women's handbags reflected a new assertiveness during the 1940's due to the expanded role that women had in the workplace and at home.

Soft, feminine bags took on the shape of larger and practical more boxy bags. These new handbags complimented the broad shouldered suit dresses that were popular at the time.

Animal skin bags also became popular in the 1940's with alligator, lizard, and even turtle being the skin of choice for fashion minded women.
