On Friday, June 9, 2006, Fendi officially took Walmart to Federal court in Manhattan over counterfeiting charges. Fendi alleges that Sam's Club is selling handbags and wallets that mimic the look and design of their bags but at up to 68% less, which amounts to $100's per handbag.
They also allege that the Fendi trademark has been violated. Walmart says that the handbags it sells across the country in it's Sam's Club stores was identified as genuine when it was purchased. Fendi says that they have bought no handbags from them and, therefore, the bags could not possibly be genuine.
Walmart has so far refused to comment on this charge, saying it has not seen the complaint yet. I will keep everyone posted as their case unfolds.
