The Latest Handbag Trend - Celebs Design Bags

The latest trend for celebrities with time on their hands is to start designing their own handbag lines. The first of this growing line of "one size fits all" handbags was the famous Monica Lewinsky when she was at the peak of her 15 minutes of fame.

Following in these famous footsteps is Gwen Stefani, Nicky Hilton, Eve (a rapper) and ex-Spice girl Victoria Beckham. It was just recently announced that Pamela Anderson would also be marketing her own line of handbags (named after herself, of course!).

Why has this trend started spinning in high gear? I think it's because of the hold that celebrities have over women. Do you want to have a glamorous life? Then dress (and carry the same handbag) as Paris Hilton! Want to feel better about yourself? Then spend $800 on a new handbag!

Another reason is that celebrities can continue with their lifestyle and slap together a handbag at the same time. There is a lot of "wiggle room" if you have a lot of money and name recognition - just hire someone to do the research, find sources of manufacture for your bags, and presto! You have a new handbag line.

This design model is a far cry from the way real bag designers go about their projects. Ideas come first, then sketches, then samples to check out how the different fabrics wear and testing to make sure all the colors are true. Designers work closely to supervise the factories that produce the bags, overseeing all steps of the process. Trade shows must be attended to keep a close eye on trends and, in a way, handbag designers have to foresee the future because it takes about 1 year from sketches to an actual bag that is ready to go to market.

The next time you see that genuine designer handbag, appreciate the time, care, and quality that went into making this beautiful accessory!
